ONLINE ENGLISH - English as an International Language of Understanding
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Greetings,
I am pleased to announce that OnlineEnglish continues to attract new
members - thank you for your help :)
I will continue to add new features (audio, etc.) as more people join
us.
For their recent help, I'd like to especially thank Takashi of Japan and
Andrea of Italy for building an Archive of past lessons, Nina of the
Ukraine for promoting us at a conference, and Paulino for a mention in
his newspaper article. You make OnlineEnglish, not me - I only make the
lessons ;-)
Regards,

EXERCISE 7.2 - Grammar Answers
Two very old men are idly chatting in a quiet barber shop. Their world
is changing fast, and they feel vulnerable...
A: (1) I would like to stress the point that there is no real
benefit for people who live in a country in which English is not
commonly used to spend so much time, money and effort learning a
language that will never be applied to their lives.
B: Yes, yes, I totally agree, (2)I can't see any reason why young
people are all obsessed with wanting to learn a foreign
language, especially English which is so difficult and
illogical!
A: Correct, and,(3) as a matter of fact, it is important to
realize that English is actually one of the most difficult
languages in the world since it has the most vocabulary and such
ridiculous spelling.
B: Well, yes, my dear friend, (4) I'm going so far as saying that
English should not be taught in public schools and that each
country should only focus on their traditional language and not
communicate with people in other countries at all.
(By the way, I don't know why they are speaking in English!! ;-)
